How exciting can it be to find a piece of brown wrapping paper with a remnant of its former use still printed on it and a rather random white brushstroke – stick it onto the canvas and continue working on it with the momentum of a new idea, random and unexpected. The same can be done with many other materials, such as old letters, notes, old drawings (including your own) and/or tissue paper, which gives off colour and creases when glued. You could even say that the material works with us. Torn, cut, crumpled or bent – the possibilities are endless, as is the additional use of almost all painting materials (acrylic, pencil, coloured pencils, inks, ink sticks, oil pastels or watercolour pencils, etc.).
