In this intensive modelling course, we aim to bring clay to life and create a realistic
human bust with character and expression. Naturally, there is
no getting round anatomy! The aim of the course is to bridge the gap between anatomical accuracy and
artistic vitality. We will work on proportions and learn what makes a
makes a bust appear ‘typically’ male, female or childlike. How can hair be modelled naturally
and dynamically, and how can clothing and drapery be shaped realistically? How
can eyes be depicted as ‘seeing’ and full of life? Posture and the depiction of the hands
emphasise the intended inner state of a bust just as strongly as facial expressions!
Get to grips with the material: clay. A wonderful medium that sets almost
no limits to your creative expression and allows “mistakes” to be easily corrected.
You can model freely or follow a template.
Those confident in realistic representation are also welcome to work more abstractly. Whether you
wish to deepen your skills or have never held clay before, I will guide you with empathy and
experience!

(drapery!), rough depiction of the hands
Day 3: Refinement of all details, hollowing out the bust, touch-ups and finalisation of the bust
