We encounter contrasts everywhere – in nature, in everyday life and in our emotions. In this course, we consciously focus on these contrasts and bring them to the fore: light and dark, stillness and movement, light and heavy, much and little…
Step by step, initial loose sketches develop into expressive and individual compositions. The focus is on the interplay of shapes, colours, patterns and textures. How do backgrounds, ornaments and areas of colour alter the effect of a picture? How are depth, tension and atmosphere created? With curiosity and a willingness to experiment, we’ll discover our very own visual solutions.
We work with a variety of techniques: scraping, palette knife work, painting, drawing, as well as applying glazes and opaque layers using acrylic paints, pencils, coloured pencils and oil pastels on canvases. The creative process remains open and dynamic – layer by layer, images emerge that change, surprise and interact with one another.
Over the course of the workshop, you will create a personal installation using nine canvases measuring 40 × 30 cm. The individual elements will enter into a fascinating dialogue with one another, reflecting the diversity of contrasts.
Over the four days of the course, we’ll draw inspiration from everyday life, nature and our own feelings. You’re welcome to bring along any sketches or ideas you may have.
