Fragile luminous intensity
Watercolor painting requires special attention and concentration (so that the white of the paper retains its strength), which are difficult to find in the everyday environment. In this course we will devote 5 days to watercolor painting, without distraction and in a community that encourages concentrated work even more. The aim is to merge the water with the pigment in the paper. The brush is the tool that makes the pictorial idea visible. Over time, the mind also finds peace and clarity. This is particularly important for watercolor, which is comparable to Chinese ink painting. We build up the watercolor layer by layer. It is often surprising to see the special shades of color that emerge. . The colors begin to glow and vibrate when the white elevations of the paper remain visible. As with any other technique, it is important not to lose sight of the unity of the picture. Watercolor requires special planning because, unlike oil painting, you cannot paint over it with white and it is also not possible to lay many layers on top of each other. The colors flow into each other, creating special edges and transparent areas of color. Watercolor is often suspected of being a “sweet”, “nice” landscape painting. We want the watercolors to have just as much power as oil paintings, only with the special glow and lightness that are characteristic of this technique. Watercolor can also be developed further in this day and age.
