Master class in painting with colour
Colour painters are visual artists who develop their pictures ‘FROM THE COLOUR’.
Colour stands for vitality and experiences that come from life. It is a constructive, positive force in painting. It can be understood and perceived across all boundaries, worldwide. Colours have their own character, but they only unfold it in interaction with other colours.
Painting, in which colour is the most important compositional element, gives the viewer strength, optimism and courage. Especially in today’s world, where we are confronted with so many disturbing events worldwide, it is once again becoming an important form of artistic expression. It does not hide behind a harmonious façade, but rather counters the superficiality, fast pace and despondency of our time with something important. Namely, humanity and a positive, affirmative attitude towards life, with a commitment to the possibility and necessity of a vibrant, diverse coexistence of all living beings.
This form of painting combines the spatial depth created by the colours on the canvas with the physical, sensual surface of the image. It thus combines rationality and emotion, body and spirit.
Painting from colour is not illustrative; the emphasis is on form, not on narrative content (formalism). It opens up spaces for thought, frees the mind and makes it independent.
In the course of the painting process, the areas of colour are brought into harmony with each other, following the overarching goal of creating a unified spatial effect in the picture.
This means that, despite the individuality of the surfaces, gestures or lines, all elements communicate with each other and are indispensable to the whole.
The special thing about these pictures is that if you want to see them, you have to step outside conventional thinking, because the perception of time is different in them. They are painted over a long period of time, and yet everything is visible at a glance. The ‘street time’ in which we move is a different time from that of the pictures. In our normal everyday time, everything takes place one-to-one, as in a film. In the picture, eternity is fused with the moment.
After two years of studying colour painting, which focused primarily on fundamental aspects and sharpening perception in relation to colour, this course will now focus on developing a personal visual language. This individual language will be developed by contrasting temporal and timeless aspects of painting. The question of what is necessary to live in our time will be the subject of individual and group discussions.
