Paper in its variety of qualities and colors offers a wide range of possibilities for working with it in three dimensions. This course deals with the direct molding of everyday objects using high-quality natural papers from Japan or the Himalayas. We will work with the papers using various techniques, such as the layering technique. The pulp created from paper can also be used as a mass for sculpting. The various molding techniques, such as molding with plaster bandages, cloths dipped in plaster or alginates, can be tried out in small excursions. The brave can consider whether they would like to create impressions of the human body. A fragment of the torso, head, hand, foot or possibly the whole body can form the basis for an artistic examination of the topic “body as a shell”. The use of the light and transparent material paper often counteracts the heaviness of the form with the airiness of the resulting sculptures. The visual interplay between form, color and light is the fundamental prerequisite for the artificial compositions that can arise from it. The course is aimed at anyone who is curious and keen to experiment with the medium of paper in a sculptural way. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced students.
