This workshop focuses on the art of recognising the essential and expressing mood through a few precise areas of watercolour. We will learn to create expressive portrait and genre sketches that retain the freshness of the first impression and the freedom of the painterly gesture.
Participants will learn the basics of the wet-on-wet technique, develop a feel for tonal values and composition, work with a limited colour palette, and discover how the accidental effects of watercolour painting can be integrated into an expressive artistic composition.
The workshop is aimed at both beginners and advanced artists who wish to bring greater freedom, expressiveness and spontaneity to their watercolour painting. The aim is not to copy visible reality, but to bring its atmosphere, character and inner mood to life through the language of watercolour painting.
