Discover Japanese woodblock printing.
Mokuhanga differs significantly from the traditional relief printing techniques of the West. We allow water-soluble ink to soak into the damp printing paper without the use of a mechanical press. This opens up a wide range of creative possibilities for the artist. Patience and the courage to take risks in order to venture into new and unusual territory are key. Furthermore, this course also offers the opportunity to combine watercolour painting with woodblock printing.
Printing is done by hand and can also be continued at home. We work in both representational and abstract styles and, in addition to the techniques of woodblock printing and watercolour, we also explore motif selection, composition, perspective, proportion, space and colour itself. We work in the studio and, if there is interest, also in the surroundings of the academy.
