We know and admire nature in all its inexhaustible diversity. This boundless potential for form—which nature offers us in both the microcosm and the macrocosm—will serve as the starting point for artistic explorations and approaches in this course. At the same time, however, we are also witnessing an accelerated transformation of nature, driven by factors such as climate change and the increased use of natural resources.

Using watercolors, drawings, or oil sketches, we will explore this potential for form in nature, the atmosphere and mood of the landscape, as well as the current changes taking place. These experiences and collections of ideas will then be translated into paintings in the studio. Field trips to the Bad Reichenhall area, slide presentations, and discussions will also shed light on the art-historical and scientific aspects of the topic.

This practice-oriented course focuses on the following areas:
• Developing individual processes of image creation
• Further developing one’s own artistic and painterly concepts
• Reflecting on painterly processes
• Exploration of the specific thematic and material qualities of painting
• Insight into current trends in painting and the art-historical context
• Discussion of the emerging visual works in individual and group conversations.
