The course begins with a brief introduction to the possibilities offered by the various techniques of artistic intaglio printing. From the preparation and finishing of the printing plates to the finished printed sheet. Copper plates measuring up to a maximum of 30 x 40 are machined, incised using the ‘drypoint’ technique, or etched with ferric chloride.
Templates can be transferred using tracing, and colour plates can be produced by means of a transfer print. We will work with line and area etching, using a needle and sugar ink, to gain an insight into the wide range of technical possibilities.
We will combine creative freedom with the necessary technical precision. You can print a small run (max. five copies – depending on the design!) from the printing plates you have created. I would be happy to arrange larger runs on your behalf.
The course is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.
