In this workshop, we set out to rediscover drawing.
We become seismographs ourselves, translating movement and encounters into lines – sometimes in response to our surroundings, sometimes in dialogue with our own bodies. We work with unusual tools, extending our bodies with rods and drawing with this new reach. We draw traces through the space, which others capture in drawings, stretch rope lines and compose a three-dimensional image from them. In doing so, we sharpen our awareness of the quality of movement and line, learn to recognise the imperfect and spontaneous – and to use it creatively. We transfer the experiences we have gathered into our personal sign language and develop a small series based on instructions we have formulated ourselves.
Each day of the course begins with a movement session that raises awareness of the body, the group and the space. This is followed by new guided exercises every day. The course programme is rounded off with brief insights into the practice of historical and contemporary artists, which provide inspiration for our own experimentation.
This creates a space for experimentation in which the boundaries of drawing can be pushed, new forms of expression can be tried out and personal approaches to drawing can be found.
