‘Thinking with your eyes’ has been the motto of my workshops for years, which are open to both advanced and beginners of all ages and are not focussed on a particular style. I see painting first and foremost as a mental process that draws on the unconscious and transforms emotions into form. The lack of reflection in the act of painting becomes a condition of contemplation, even of meaning.
Working in a larger format prevents course participants from becoming too fiddly. The technique is simple and easy to learn. The use of primed paper as a painting surface greatly reduces the inhibitions that one usually has in front of a white canvas. Time-consuming preparations should be avoided so that the entire course time is available for the realisation of artistic ideas. In individual and group discussions, I accompany the creation of the works without intellectualising too much. Excursions into colour theory are possible and references to examples from art history are the order of the day,
Year after year, I am fascinated anew by the artistic potential that is contributed by each individual, but which is significantly enhanced by the work within the group. I am already looking forward to seeing many new faces and new ideas.
