The philosophy behind minimalist watercolour painting is this: what matters is not just what you paint, but above all what you consciously leave out. Our course is structured precisely around this approach. Using minimal means, we achieve the greatest possible artistic expression. In doing so, we explore various watercolour techniques – from wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry to dry, playful textures. We work both entirely in monochrome and with carefully placed colour accents. The interplay between watercolour and its close relative, gouache, will also feature on the fringes of the course. Thematically, we will focus on winter and autumn landscapes, amongst other things – and many other subjects.
