We embark on a creative artistic journey that bridges the gap between figurative representation and non-representational painting. The aim is to broaden our own means of expression and develop an individual artistic vocabulary.
In addition to practical painting, we will devote each day to a topic of significance to the professional practice of artists. Through brief information sessions, talks and group discussions, we will explore topics such as copyright, the Bild-Kunst collecting society, art and taxation, as well as other issues relating to the broader context of artistic practice. In this way, the course combines direct experience of the artwork with knowledge that is important for one’s own artistic practice beyond the confines of the studio.
The artistic work centres on exploring various compositional possibilities, the deliberate use of colour, and experimenting with different painting materials. We explore how conscious composition can give rise to both harmony and deliberate disorientation – whether through contrasts, breaks or unexpected arrangements within the picture.
The course offers plenty of scope for personal themes, questions and working methods. In doing so, it is important to me to support and deepen each participant’s individual artistic development.
Whether representational, graphic or abstract: anything that enriches our exploration of painting and further our own artistic development is welcome.
Group discussions of artworks, inspiration drawn from art history and the contemporary art scene, as well as a lively, open exchange of ideas, are of course also part of the experience.
