‘Painting is not about colouring shapes, but shaping colours.’
Henri Matisse
Finding your own unique form means shaping something distinctive and searching for the essence, for what remains when everything superfluous has been stripped away. It is the powerful expression of a clear gesture, the broad strokes that carry the whole. Reduction becomes strength.
The free artistic interpretation of what we see – of what we observe closely – leads us to new solutions that create space for movement, rhythm and expression. The alienation, transformation and rearrangement of everyday objects give rise to exciting pictorial spaces that go beyond the expected and dissolve boundaries or clearly mark them. Central aspects are composition, materiality and the relationship between texture and form. Large-format used and painted (packaging) paper is used to create unique pictorial concepts in which the material itself becomes a medium of expression.
Everything can be tried out, combined and reinterpreted. The course offers space for free experimental work – and the development of your own creative expression.
You can work with any materials you like: powdery materials, acrylics, pencils/chalk, brushes, brooms, spatulas, rags and your hands.
You are very welcome to bring along work you have already started to paint over or continue.
I will demonstrate different possibilities and techniques, including working with liquid wax and collage techniques. Building on your personal knowledge, I will respond to your individual wishes and interests. There will be joint discussions of the pictures.
Anyone who enjoys colour and experimentation is warmly invited – whether you are experienced or less experienced on the path to mastery – with a joy for the unexpected!
